The vehicle is available in two configurations, including SXT and R/T. The car is front wheel drive and was first introduced in 1995. It was based on the Chrysler JA platform. The Stratus was on Car and Driver Magazine's "Ten Best" List twice (in 1996 and 1997) and received critical acclaim with its closely resembled sister vehicle the Sebring until they were both replaced with the Dodge Avenger. An updated version of the Stratus was introduced for 2001, with the Cirrus being renamed as the Chrysler Sebring, and a coupé model was also added to the range. However, production ended in early 2006 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, which had built 1,308,123 Stratus and Sebrings since 2000. For the 2008 model, the Stratus nameplate was replaced by the Dodge Avenger in early 2007.
