These configurations include the T5 and the T5 R-Design. The V50 was first introduced in 2003 at the Bologna Motor Show as the station wagon version of the Volvo S40 small family car. Both models were manufactured in Ghent, Belgium. They shared the Ford C1 platform with the European Ford Focus and the Mazda 3. The V50 featured a floating center stack, interior "theatre" lighting, and "Volvo Intelligent Vehicle Architecture". For the 2008 model year, the V50 underwent some style changes, including revised front styling, minor modifications to the interior, optional active xenon headlights, audio systems, increased power and torque of the T5 engine, availability of the D5, with a six speed manual and a 1.8 Flexifuel engine.
