The Ford Expedition is a full size SUV built by the Ford Motor Company. First put into production in the year 1997, the Expedition was as a replacement to the Ford Bronco. It is Fords largest and final truck-based, off road and towing capable SUV. The Expedition is based heavily on the Ford F150 pickup and continues to share assorted components (transmissions, electronics, chassis control systems, towing features, etc.) with the full-size half-ton pickup truck. Ford currently offers the standard regular sized model and the longer EL/Max model, succeeding the Excursion which was discontinued in 2005. Since its initial introduction, the Expedition's braked trailer towing capacity has increased from 8,100 lbs. to 9,200 lbs.
