The SUV was available in two different configurations. These configurations include the LS and the SE. The mid size crossover SUV was built by Mitsubishi Motors until the end of its production in 2011. When its production ended, it lead to the launch of the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, both very similar SUV Crossover vehicles. The SUV was built at Mitsubishi's manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. It was the first vehicle built under their "Project America", a program aimed at introducing vehicles for North America without having to compromise to accommodate other export markets. Its design origins can be traced back to the Mitsubishi SSU which debuted at the 1999 North American International Auto Show, although the Endeavor does not share the concept's mechanical underpinnings.
